Catherine & Dr. Eugene Kinghorn, Co-Founders and Chief Executive Officers

Catherine & Eugene created a successful educational system when they founded the Rose Academies and Rose Management Group. The Rose Operating System for Education® (R.O.S.E. ®) transforms education into a legacy for individuals, families, and communities worldwide.  Gene is committed to innovative growth through education and creating successful systems for learning how to learn (H2L). Gene received his doctoral degree in Educational Administration, with emphasis on Special Education and Rehabilitation, from the University of Arizona. Catherine’s emphasis is on customer service as she infuses her expertise with business operations and human resources into the business of schooling.

Kelly Hurtado, Superintendent for School Operations & Charter Operator

Kelly leads the schools as Superintendent and Charter Operator. She relentlessly pursues quality in a learning community that serves the customers – the students & their families through the school professionals - principals, teachers, & clerks.  Kelly has been with the Rose Academies since its inception in 1999. She has held many positions within the organization from grants manager to principal. Kelly received her M.A. in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University.

Cathy Capen, Chief Operations Officer

Cathy currently serves as COO of RMG with her 10 years of experience within the educational management organization. Cathy has working experience as Director of Student Services and as Special Education Coordinator. Cathy graduated with honors and holds a B.A. in Business Administration.

Ian Shalek, Chief Finance Officer

Ian applies his financial expertise to the R.O.S.E. ® business. He has almost ten years experience with charter schools, previously working as a federal auditor.  Ian is a Certified Public Accountant (C.P.A.) and holds degrees in Economics and Accounting.

Phil Hurtado & Chad Kinghorn, Chief Information Officers

Phil and Chad create & maintain R.O.S.E.’s quality technology backbone, which serves the customer and the organization in developing skills and the ability to learn.  They contribute over 30 years of experience. Before working for the Rose Academies, Phil served onboard the USS John Paul Jones as an Electronics Technician during Operation Enduring Freedom. Chad holds an Electronic Engineering Degree from ITT and came to the Rose Academies from United Parcel Service.

Dr. Amy Schlessman, Chief R.O.S.E. ® Development (R & D) Officer

Amy serves R.O.S.E. ® in the development of growth opportunities for the organization and its learning community. She joined RMG with over twenty years of internationally recognized educational expertise including teaching at public schools and universities, working with Fortune 500 companies, and leading organizations and professional groups. She holds a Ph.D. in Educational Foundations & Administration and has publications ranging from theoretical models and frameworks to practical applications.
